There are many ways to keep your data safe. Data recovery is not cheep as we all know and I would like the business as much as anyone. Lets look at ways to keep your data safe to prevent Costly recovery service, lost production (re entering 5 years worth of data etc). and prevent loss of personal data (social
security numbers, credit card numbers, etc).
* Kerbos Method. Have 3 copies of your data besides what you work with daily.
1 on the PC or server onsite. I installed an extra hard drive in our Business computer and run a "real time back up program" (there are many on the internet do
goggle search). and I keep all data (documents, etc). in 1 folder which is backed up in real time. I use
Norton ghost to make a full back up to the second hard drive then keep real data backed up to the second hard drive from the first one. This way if the first hard drive fails
I disconnect it and boot to second one. I am back in business.
2 Burn the data on cd or tape back up, or even memory card or portable hard drive.
3 Keep a copy of backups off site. I use a Climate Controlled mini storage that is secure.
* Never store private information, credit card numbers etc on a laptop!!! These are stolen daily and a great target for
identity theft.
* Encrypt personal information that is stored on portable media. All data on my laptop is
Encrypted.
* Use a hidden Folder for personal information stored on the desktop computer. and keep it hidden. Use
goggle to find out how to hide folders.
When you sell or get rid of a computer Use a low level format
utility to wipe the hard drive of all data even i will not be able to
recover this data.
